LIFE Celtic Seas Partnership
LIFE Celtic Seas Partnership
United Kingdom. 2013-2017. WWF UK
The project has succeeded in bringing together a diverse range of users of the Celtic Seas to develop innovative and collaborative approaches to marine environmental management in three countries: United Kingdom, Ireland, and France.
Its main achievement has been to put the users of the sea at the centre of management, giving them the opportunity to influence how the marine environment will be managed in the years to come.
It has also helped build partnerships and trust between scientists, governments, and marine users, including fishermen, divers and industry representatives. Support groups have also been formed to find solutions to some of the major challenges facing the Celtic Seas. One such challenge is marine litter.
The LIFE Celtic Seas Partnership has also piloted mediation between the fishing industry, government and NGOs in Scotland and produced a set of good practice guidelines for users in the management of the Celtic Seas.
